Clash for Windows

No longer maintained

Clash for Windows established a familiar Windows workflow, and many older guides still use pages such as Profiles, Proxies, Rules, and General as their reference points. It uses the original Clash core family and is no longer maintained. It remains useful for identifying legacy configurations, exporting subscription sources, and understanding historical workflows, but it is not suitable as the long-term default client on a new device.

When migrating to Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev, FlClash, or Nyanpasu, do not copy the entire application data directory. First record the subscription URL, custom rules, port settings, and whether the system proxy was enabled, then import the configuration again in the new client. Meta and mihomo support more fields, but old configurations may still contain client-specific overrides; migrating item by item makes incompatible content easier to find than replacing everything at once.

Clash Meta for Android

CMFA

Clash Meta for Android is commonly abbreviated as CMFA and suits advanced users who want Meta- or mihomo-related configuration capabilities on Android. It captures traffic through Android’s VPN service, while connection stability is also affected by battery-saving policies, background restrictions, always-on VPN, and other VPN apps. These factors should be assessed separately from the subscription nodes themselves.

CMFA has a relatively dense settings surface. After importing a configuration, start with the defaults to verify that the subscription parses, policy groups can be selected, and basic network access works. Then configure Fake-IP, app bypass rules, LAN access, or advanced DNS. If the client says it is connected but an app cannot reach the network, check VPN conflicts, DNS, rule matches, and the selected policy in that order instead of repeatedly deleting and re-importing the same subscription.

Surfboard

Rule compatibility

Surfboard is an Android proxy-rules client that supports common Clash configurations and rule workflows, but it should not be treated simply as a mihomo GUI wrapper. It has its own implementation and configuration boundaries, making it better suited to users who already understand mobile proxy tools, know how to check subscription compatibility, and are willing to adapt rules to the client’s capabilities.

When migrating from another Clash client to Surfboard, pay particular attention to providers, scripts, mihomo extension fields, and enhanced DNS settings. Basic proxy nodes and common rules may be reusable, but complex configurations should not be assumed to be fully compatible. If a provider generates the subscription, first confirm whether it offers a Surfboard-specific configuration entry point. If you maintain the configuration yourself, start with the smallest working configuration and add rules in stages.

After importing into Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev, or FlClash, grant system permissions again and remember that a connected indicator in the menu bar does not mean every app is being proxied as expected.

ORIGINAL CORE

CURRENT CORE

mihomo

The name used for the successor to the Meta core. Clients such as Clash Verge Rev, FlClash, and Nyanpasu provide graphical management around mihomo. Sharing the same core does not mean their configuration overrides, system permissions, and interface features are identical.
